In a recent Truth Social post, Donald Trump announced that he will be directing the Bureau of Prisons, together with the Department of Justice, FBI, and Homeland Security, to rebuild and reopen the infamous prison Alcatraz, which is being operated as a tourist site today.
REBUILD, AND OPEN ALCATRAZ! For too long, America has been plagued by vicious, violent, and repeat Criminal Offenders, the dregs of society, who will never contribute anything other than Misery and Suffering. When we were a more serious Nation, in times past, we did not hesitate to lock up the most dangerous criminals, and keep them far away from anyone they could harm. That’s the way it’s supposed to be. No longer will we tolerate these Serial Offenders who spread filth, bloodshed, and mayhem on our streets.
That is why, today, I am directing the Bureau of Prisons, together with the Department of Justice, FBI, and Homeland Security, to reopen a substantially enlarged and rebuilt ALCATRAZ, to house America’s most ruthless and violent Offenders.
This comes amidst his relentless battle with illegal immigration - "We will no longer be held hostage to criminals, thugs, and Judges that are afraid to do their job and allow us to remove criminals, who came into our Country illegally," he says, and adds "The reopening of ALCATRAZ will serve as a symbol of Law, Order, and JUSTICE."
Alcatraz, also known as "The Rock", was the most feared prison in the American penal system, which once held some of the most notorious gangsters, like Al Capone and George "Machine Gun" Kelly.

The small island prison is located in San Francisco Bay, which operated from 1934 to 1963. Nicknamed "The Rock," it was considered virtually unescapable because of the cold water and strong currents around it.

Before it became a federal prison, the island was actually used as a military fort and later as a military prison. After the prison shut down, it became the site of a major Native American occupation from 1969 to 1971—a key event in the Native American civil rights movement. Today, Alcatraz is run by the National Park Service and is a popular tourist spot.
