Respawn issues a statement on recent Apex Legends hacking during ALGS Regional Finals

Respawn Entertainment, the creators of Apex Legends, Titanfall and other gaming titles issued an update on the hacking scandal, that occured on March 18, during a regional finals competition.

Respawn's statement

Respawn communicated through their twitter, that they've released the first of many security updates, ensuring the Apex community, that they are extensively working behind the scenes on the issue: "Our teams have deployed the first of a layered series of updates to protect the Apex Legends player community".

The community's response was mixed, but mostly positive, with one side outlining the concern of the issue still not being fixed, due to the lack of details on what was the actual reason for the players' accounts to become compromised, while the other side is admiring the way Respawn is handling the situation and communicating to them in the process.

What happened during the tournament?

Two players appeared to have been given cheats during a match, such as 'Wallhacks and Aimbot' (which gave them an unfair advantage over others). Both instances were livestreamed on their twitch channels, prompting a widespread coverage across social media and other major gaming reporting websites.

Below are the clips of both players, 'ImperialHAL' of Team SoloMid(TSM), and 'Genburten' of DarkZero (DZ) getting an apparent remote execution of hacks on their accounts.

Genburten:

ImperialHAL:

Whether the hacker successfully executed these cheats through the game client remains unclear, as such details are typically withheld by the investigating teams for obvious security reasons.
