Two Popular Games That Used to Cost Money But Are Now Free

Good in-game content like character/weapon skins, player models, loot boxes, battle passes and etc. incentivize the player to spend more money than the initial paywall they would pay for the game itself which generates more income for the company.

#1 PUBG: Battlegrounds

In PUBG, up to 100 players parachute onto an island where they search for weapons and gear to hunt down and kill other players. The available safe area of the map shrinks over time, forcing surviving players into changing their positions closer to each other. The last surviving player (or team) wins the round.

When the game was released back in 2017, it costed $29,99. It shifted as a free-to-play game earlier this year, in January.

#2 Fall Guys

Fall Guys is a battle royale game developed by Mediatonic. The game lets up to 60 players control jellybean-like creatures and compete in a series of randomized mini-games such as obstacle courses and tagging. You can jump, grab other players, climb walls and dive forward. The point of the game is to be the first to cross the finish line.

When 'Fall Guys' was first released on PS4 and Steam back in 2020, it used to cost $19.99. After Mediatonic was acquired by Epic Games this year in June, it became Free-to-Play and is now available on Xbox Consoles, Nintendo Switch, PS5, PS4, and PC.
